Prior to ESCRIBANA, she worked for 15 years with FIRE – Feminist International Radio Endeavour (Radio Internacional Feminista). She is a professor emerita of international & intercultural communication and feminist media studies at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado.

María Suarez Toro
is founder, producer, and consultant with ESCRIBANA. A Puerto- Rican/Costa Rican, she is a feminist activist with various professions: journalist, social communicator, writer, teacher and university professor, scuba diver and fisherwoman.
